The French take responsibility for this bird which came from Faverolles in the Seine-et-Oise department of France and is a cross of the Cochin and Dorking.
Eggs
The hens lay well both in the Summer and Winter and produce a lovely tinted egg approx 150 eggs per bird are laid annually.
Appearance & Temperament
What a wonderful bird you have never seen anything so funny as the white bearded hens rushing around their enclosure looking as if they are still in their fluffy slippers and PJs. A very placid and affectionate breed. We have Salmon Faverolles at Over the Stile and two Cockerels, DArtagnan formerly known as Colin and Athos. Its hard to believe the Cockerels are from the same breed, as their feathering is so markedly different from the hens. The Cockerel has black thighs and breast and a creamy neck, a black beard the back is reddish-brown and the shoulders are red with broad white lacing giving a paint palette look.
This breed is not recommended for a mixed flock as it can be bullied.
